The Research Group on Communication, Culture, and Science (HUM752) at the University of Seville, in collaboration with Igerius Conferences, is organizing the Fourth International Conference on Arab, Islamic, and Western Contexts under the theme: “Cultural Narratives in the Post-Gaza Era: Towards a Geopolitics of East-West Discourse.” The conference will take place on December 12 and 13, 2024, as part of the CIMAR project, which regularly holds conferences and seminars focusing on the Arab world.

This year’s conference is set against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, including the war in Gaza and Palestine, which has marked a pivotal moment in the relationship between the Arab and Islamic worlds and the West. This conflict has profoundly influenced cultural discourses on both sides, reshaping narratives and mutual perceptions. These developments reflect the shifting geopolitics of the Middle East and offer new insights into the future of intercultural relations.

To foster stronger cultural connections in the post-Gaza era, the conference aims to:

  • Promote intercultural education.

  • Facilitate dialogue and exchange between thinkers and academics from the East and the West.

  • Leverage cultural diplomacy as a means of building bridges.

  • Encourage balanced and objective media coverage of events in both regions.

We are pleased to announce that the Ijtihad Center for Studies and Training in Belgium is collaborating in this important international conference alongside esteemed academic institutions and research centers. This collaboration is particularly significant during such a sensitive period in the history of the Arab and Islamic world, Europe, and the West.

We invite researchers—whether affiliated with the Ijtihad Center or other research institutions and academic bodies—to participate in this conference. The program will feature 12 thematic tracks covering a wide range of topics, including society, religion, politics, culture, translation, artificial intelligence, and more. The event will be conducted virtually and interactively (online). All submitted abstracts and papers will undergo scientific peer review and will be published in a dedicated volume. Participants will also receive accredited certificates.

Finally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mohammed Dahiri, Professor and Researcher at the Complutense University in Madrid and a distinguished member of both the Ijtihad Center for Studies and Training in Belgium and the Ijtihad Journal for Islamic and Arabic Studies in Europe. Dr. Dahiri was instrumental in nominating the Ijtihad Center to collaborate on this prestigious international academic event.
